Ingredients
The Dough
- One teaspoon of active dry yeast
- One teaspoon sugar
- 1 1/4 cups water, warm
- 2 cups plus two tablespoons of all-purpose flour
- One teaspoon of acceptable salt
- Vegetable oil for frying
Syrup
- 3 cups sugar
- 1 1/3 cups water
- Two tablespoons of lemon juice
How to make it happen
Make the Dough
- Get the ingredients.
- Add yeast and sugar to warm water in a measuring cup. Stir until dissolved. Let the mixture sit for five to ten minutes.
- Combine flour and salt in a medium bowl.
- Mix yeast water with a wooden spoon to form a dough-like consistency.
- Place the cover over a warm place and let it rise for at least 1 1/2 hours or until it doubles.
- Preheat vegetable oil to 375 F.
- Place one tablespoon of dough in a small bowl. Heat oil until the dough is golden brown. Continue with the remaining dough.
- Use paper towels to drain.
Make the Syrup
- Get the ingredients.
- Mix all ingredients in a saucepan on medium heat for 20 minutes before you fry the dough.
- Bring to a boil. Then simmer on low for 10 to 15 minutes until the syrup is thickened. The syrup will become cloudy if you stir slowly.
- Serve immediately with a drizzle of syrup on top.
